Cockatiels in New Jersey

When you are choosing a cockatiel, I always tell families to look beyond color and focus on the bird’s health, temperament, diet, and daily care. I’m Mr. Parrot, and these are the feeding points I want every new cockatiel owner to understand before bringing a bird home.

What foods are poisonous to cockatiels

Some foods should never be offered. Avocado, onion, garlic, chocolate, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks are unsafe for cockatiels. Apple seeds should also be removed before serving fruit. I recommend keeping unfamiliar foods away rather than taking chances. A quality formulated pellet should make up the foundation of the diet, with fresh vegetables and small portions of fruit added for variety.

Can cockatiels eat corn

Yes, plain cooked or fresh corn can be offered in a small amount as part of a varied diet. I prefer simple corn without salt, butter, seasoning, or sauces. It can be a useful enrichment food, but it should remain a supplement rather than replacing a nutritionally complete diet.

Can cockatiels eat strawberries

Yes. Strawberries can be an occasional fresh treat. Wash them thoroughly, remove any spoiled portions, and cut them into manageable pieces. Because fruit contains natural sugars and plenty of water, I keep portions modest.

Before purchasing a cockatiel, ask about its current diet and transition gradually when changing foods. A healthy start at home makes settling in much easier.

Artie, Male Cockatiel Bird

Artie, male cockatiel bird, has the kind of personality that makes daily interaction enjoyable. He is friendly, curious, and comfortable around people, with a gentle nature that suits someone looking for a companion bird. Like many male cockatiels, Artie enjoys attention and can become particularly engaging when he starts whistling or responding to familiar voices. I like his balanced temperament because he is playful without being overly demanding. With patient handling, routine interaction, and a comfortable home, Artie has plenty of potential to become a wonderful household companion.
