Shipping & Delivery Procedure

At Buy Cocktiels, we understand that shipping a cockatiel is very different from sending an ordinary package. A live bird needs careful preparation, suitable travel conditions, and attention to weather and airline requirements. Our goal is to make the journey from our care to your home as organized and as comfortable as reasonably possible.

Before any shipment is arranged, we discuss the destination, available transportation options, required documentation, and the most appropriate travel schedule for your cockatiel.

How Our Cockatiel Shipping Process Works

Customer Information Required

Once you have selected your cockatiel and shipping has been discussed, we may need accurate information to prepare the delivery arrangements, including:

  • Full name

  • Delivery address

  • City

  • State or province, where applicable

  • Postal or ZIP code

  • Phone number

  • Nearest suitable airport or approved collection point

  • Name you have chosen for your cockatiel

The information provided should be accurate because incorrect details can cause unnecessary delays during travel arrangements.

Airline and Travel Arrangements

Cockatiels may be transported using an airline or specialized live-animal transportation service when available and permitted for the destination. Airline policies differ considerably, particularly for live birds, so transportation is arranged according to the carrier’s current requirements and the regulations that apply to the destination.

Not every airline accepts birds, and some routes may have restrictions based on species, weather, aircraft, destination, or seasonal conditions. For international shipments, additional import, veterinary, quarantine, or wildlife requirements may also apply.

We therefore confirm the available route and requirements before finalizing the shipment rather than assuming that every destination can use the same procedure.

Flight and Delivery Information

After the travel arrangements have been confirmed, we provide the available journey information, such as the scheduled departure, expected arrival time, airport or collection instructions, and applicable reference details.

Because live-animal transportation can sometimes be affected by airline schedules, weather, operational changes, or regulatory requirements, arrival times should be treated as estimates until the carrier confirms the final itinerary.

The buyer is responsible for being available at the agreed collection location and following the instructions provided for receiving the cockatiel.

Shipping Duration

Travel time depends on the destination, available routes, airline schedules, connections, customs procedures, and local regulations.

Some domestic journeys may be completed relatively quickly, while international transportation can require considerably more planning. We do not promise a fixed delivery period until the actual route has been reviewed and confirmed.

Our preference is always to choose a practical route that minimizes unnecessary travel and handling.

Comfort and Safety During Travel

Your cockatiel’s welfare remains an important consideration throughout the shipping process.

The bird should travel in an appropriate, secure, well-ventilated carrier or container that meets the applicable airline and live-animal transportation requirements. Food and water arrangements are planned according to the length and conditions of the journey, while the carrier is prepared to reduce the possibility of injury or unnecessary stress.

Live-animal markings and handling instructions may be required depending on the transportation provider.

We also consider the bird’s condition, travel duration, temperature, and other circumstances before proceeding with a shipment.

Weather Considerations

Weather can have a significant effect on live-bird transportation. Extremely hot or cold conditions may make travel unsuitable, particularly during certain parts of the year.

If conditions along the planned route create an unacceptable risk, the shipment may need to be postponed until safer conditions are available. This can occasionally be inconvenient, but I would rather delay a journey than rush a cockatiel into unsuitable travel conditions.

International Shipping Requirements

International cockatiel transportation requires additional planning because each country can have its own import rules.

Depending on the destination, requirements may include health documentation, veterinary certification, permits, quarantine arrangements, identification requirements, or other government approvals.

Buyers should understand that meeting the destination country’s import requirements is an essential part of international bird transportation. Requirements can change, so the applicable rules should be confirmed before travel is scheduled.

Payment and Documentation

Before completing a purchase, buyers should receive clear information about the agreed price, payment arrangements, ownership documentation, shipping costs, and any other applicable charges.

Where documentation is required for the transaction or transportation, the relevant information should be reviewed carefully before payment is completed.

We encourage buyers to keep copies of their receipts, agreements, transportation information, and other important records associated with their cockatiel purchase.

For security, buyers should also verify payment instructions carefully and contact us if any payment information appears inconsistent with the original agreement.

Cockatiel Delivery and Collection

Depending on the destination and transportation method, delivery may involve airport collection or another approved receiving arrangement.

Before the cockatiel travels, we provide the buyer with the relevant collection instructions and expected arrival information. The buyer should be prepared to collect the bird promptly when instructed.

After receiving your cockatiel, allow it time to settle into its new surroundings. A quiet environment, fresh water, appropriate food, and a properly prepared cage can make the transition considerably easier.

Nanny or Accompanied Travel Option

When available and legally permitted for the particular route, an accompanied travel arrangement may provide an additional option for buyers who prefer a person to accompany the cockatiel during its journey.

This type of service depends on the destination, airline rules, and availability of a suitable travel companion. It is not automatically available for every shipment.

If an accompanied travel option is possible, the arrangements, additional cost, itinerary, and responsibilities should be confirmed before booking.

Preparing Your Home Before Arrival

Shipping is only one part of bringing a cockatiel home. Before arrival, make sure the cage is already assembled and placed in a safe, quiet area away from dangerous fumes, open windows, kitchen hazards, and other household risks.

Have suitable food and clean drinking water ready. I also recommend keeping the first few days relatively calm. Your new cockatiel has just experienced a completely different environment, and giving it time to become comfortable can make the adjustment much easier.

At Buy Cocktiels, we believe good shipping preparation should not end when the bird reaches the destination. The real goal is to help you begin the next stage of your cockatiel’s life with the right preparation and realistic expectations.
